Tipping somebody with TipBop
This page is for the person doing the tipping. If somebody wearing a badge served you well and you want to know what happens when you tap it, this is it.
What happens when you tap
Your phone opens a web page. It shows the first name, photo and job of the person whose badge you tapped, and a few amounts to choose from. You pick one, pay with Apple Pay, Google Pay or a card, and you are done. There is nothing to install and no account to create.
If you would rather not tap, you do not have to. Nothing happens until you choose an amount and pay, and closing the page ends it.
Where the money goes
To them. The payment is made to a payment account in that person's own name, not to the business they work for and not to TipBop. It does not go through the till, and nobody divides it up afterwards.
If you choose £10, they receive £10. TipBop's fee of 40p plus 4% is added on top rather than taken out, so your total for a £10 tip is £10.80. You see that figure before you pay.
Your card details
They go straight to Stripe, the payment company that handles the transaction. They never touch TipBop, and TipBop never sees or stores a card number. Stripe is a regulated payment company used by a very large number of businesses you already buy from.
You will not hear from anyone
There is no list to end up on. TipBop does not ask for your email unless you want a receipt sent to it, and it will not use one you give for that purpose to market anything to you. It holds nothing that identifies you to the person you tipped, and it cannot put you back in touch with them.
The privacy policy sets out exactly what is kept from a payment and for how long.
Do you want a receipt?
Take one on the spot, straight after paying, as a PDF or by email. If you have closed the page, the payment reference on your card statement or Stripe receipt begins with pi_. Quote that to hello@tipbop.com and we can find it.
Something went wrong
Email hello@tipbop.com with what happened and that pi_ reference. A person reads it. If you paid twice, or paid an amount you did not mean to, say so and we will sort it out.
