What TipBop is

TipBop lets a customer tip you directly by tapping a badge you wear. The customer pays from their own phone. The money goes to a Stripe payment account in your own name. TipBop is the technology that makes the tap work, and it charges a fee for that. TipBop is not your employer, and it is not a party to the tip.

Your account

• You sign in with your email or with Apple. You must be 18 or over and have the right to work and receive tips in the UK.
• Keep your sign-in to yourself. If you lose your phone, sign out on every device from Settings.

Ask your employer first. Do not start using a badge at work and tell them later. If your employer says no, that is a real answer, and TipBop will not help you work around it.

The money

• The customer chooses the amount. The fee is 40p plus 4%, added on top of what they chose. You receive the whole amount the customer picked.
• The lowest tip is £3 and the highest is £100.
• The payment is made to your own Stripe account. TipBop never holds your money, and there is no TipBop balance that your tips pass through.

You are the merchant of record

Because tips are paid straight into your own account, you are the merchant of record. So if a customer ever disputes a tip with their bank, that money comes back out of your account. Disputes on tips are rare, and we will tell you straight away if one happens. You confirm you understand this before you start taking tips.

Tax is yours

Your tips are your income. They are yours to declare, the same as a cash tip. TipBop gives you a statement of everything you have received. TipBop does not give tax advice.

Stripe

Payments run on Stripe. When you set up your account you also agree to Stripe's own terms, and Stripe holds your legal name, date of birth, address and bank details. Those terms apply to your Stripe account alongside these terms.

What TipBop will not do

• TipBop will not add a way for a customer to contact you again. Your tip page shows your first name, photo and job title, and nothing else.
• TipBop will never contact a customer, because it holds nothing that identifies one.
• TipBop will never interrupt a sale. A tip only happens when a customer chooses to tap your badge.

Ending it

You can delete your account at any time, from Settings. The support page explains what that removes and what the law requires to be kept. TipBop may suspend an account it believes is being used for fraud or card testing.

What TipBop can promise

TipBop works to keep the service running and to pay you quickly, but it cannot promise the service is available at every moment. TipBop is not responsible for a tip a customer chose not to pay, or for a delay caused by your bank or by Stripe.
